Anne Frank, a Jewish girl of German-Dutch origin, was one of the victims of the Holocaust and she wrote a memoir or diary describing the devastating scenarios of humanity’s darkest times. Anne Frank was just 13–14 years old when she wrote down the horrors of the Holocaust while seeing through the life of a teenager. Anne wrote her everyday experiences in her diary “Kitty” and although the girl was only 13 years old, her diary contains the bittersweet truths of life and some important lessons that seem to come from a very mature and wise person. “The dead get more flowers than the living because regret is stronger than gratitude,” isn’t the only truth Anne reveals. Here are the top 10 lessons to learn from A Young Girl’s Diary:
- “A person who has courage and faith will never die in misery.”
- “You can become a good person on your own, without anyone serving as a role model.”
- “Today’s youth have the power to build a bigger, better and more beautiful world, but they dwell on the surface without caring about true beauty.”
- “We have many reasons to hope for great luck, but we have to earn it. There is no easy way out.”
- “Laziness may look inviting, but only work gives you true satisfaction.”
- “Go outside and reclaim happiness and think of all the beauty within yourself.”
- “It’s hard enough to stand on your own two feet, but when you also have to be true to your character and your soul, it’s even harder.”
- “Your inner beauty is preserved even in misfortune.”
- “A clear conscience gives you strength.”
- “One must form one’s own character”, “Always resolve to do better.”

Born on June 12, 1929 in Frankfurt, Germany, Anne and her family moved to Amsterdam, Netherlands to escape the increasing discrimination and violence faced by millions of minorities by the country’s growing Nazi Party. After millions of Jews had to flee their homeland or go into hiding, Anne’s family hid in a rear building in her father’s office building in 1942 to avoid persecution. Today the world is celebrating the 75th anniversary of the publication of Anne Frank’s diary, and although the wise young lady did not survive the horrors of the Holocaust, she is making a living from her diary.
