A video of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman mistakenly referring to GST as “horse trading” rather than “horse racing” has gone viral on social media.
The slip of the tongue happened while Sitharaman was addressing the press after Wednesday’s GST Council meeting.
In the video clip, Nirmala Sitharaman is heard saying, “The second GOM related to betting, gambling, casinos, horse trading (corrects himself) horse racing…”

The video soon attracted netizens, and the opposition has also reacted sharply.
“I knew Nirmala Sitharaman ji had the ability to think beyond the ballot box. Yes, Nirmala ji, there should be GST on horse trade,” wrote the congress leader.
“The truth is galloping out? GST on the horse trade! Please continue,” Settaram Yechury captioned the video.
The opposition accuses the BJP of horse-trading in states where it is not in power.
The blip comes as the BJP is set to return to power in Maharashtra following the collapse of Maha Vikas Aghadi’s government following a rebellion by Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde.
