Surbhi Tiwari has announced it will file for divorce from husband Praveen Kumar Sinha. She has already filed an FIR against her in-laws for alleged domestic violence.
TV actor Surbhi Tiwari, who tied the knot with Delhi-based pilot and businessman Praveen Kumar Sinha in 2019, is now heading for divorce. Surbhi, who last starred on Sony TV show Ek Rishta Saajhedari Ka, said she also filed a complaint against her mother-in-law and his sister-in-law over domestic violence she was subjected to.
Surbhi made her television debut in 1997 with Ghar Jamai. She has appeared in several TV series over the years including Shree Ganesh, Shikwah, Shagun, Hari Mirchi Lal Mirchi, Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo, Do Dil Bandhe Ek Dori Se, Tota Weds Maina and Hum Aapke Ghar Mein Rehte Hain.
In an interview with ETimes, Surbhi said things went bad shortly after their marriage and that Praveen wasn’t interested in starting a family. She said: “Shortly after I got married, I realized that Praveen and I weren’t a good match. Praveen had agreed to move to Mumbai to live with me but later refused to move. I wanted to continue acting, but I couldn’t record daily soap operas because I flew with him. As a result, I was financially dependent on him and struggled for money. Also, I wanted to start a family soon, but he wasn’t thrilled.”
She added: “I have filed a complaint against Praveen, his mother and his sisters-in-law alleging domestic violence and intimidation. Also, I didn’t get my Stree Dhan (jewelry) back, which is my right. Along with the jewelry she and I got at the wedding, I also took silverware with me. I didn’t get anything back. If I had it I wouldn’t have to sell my gold jewelry for survival and medical expenses. I feel betrayed about many things. Even after suffering so much, I had planned to break up amicably. However, Praveen told me that he would not give me the divorce and that I could sue the court for it. I have now decided to take legal action against her. I’ll be filing for divorce soon.”
