San Francisco: Meta-owned messaging platform WhatsApp is working on a feature that will allow users to make messages disappear even after they expire.
According to the WABetaInfo report, the disappearing messages can be viewed in the chat info in a new section called “Saved Messages” and anyone in the conversation can open this section.
If the disappearance of messages is enabled in a specific chat, they cannot be marked, only kept.
The report mentioned that this feature is still under development, but WhatsApp is now working on rolling out the feature by presenting some information about an upgrade of disappearing messages in a future update of WhatsApp Desktop Beta.
Additionally, WhatsApp will allow group admins to restrict this feature, so there will likely be a new privacy setting that will allow group admins to toggle the ability to keep a disappearing message.
This feature is under development, so it’s unclear when it will be released to beta testers.
WhatsApp is also working to allow users to leave groups silently without notifying other group participants except admins. However, all group members can still see who is leaving the group using a feature called “past participants”.
