New Delhi: American tech giant Apple plans to show ads in the App Store’s Today tab and on individual app pages. According to The Verge, MacRumors, 9to5Mac and AppleInsider suggest the two new ad placements expand on the ads you can already see in the App Store search tab and in search results. Ads on the Today tab are shown in the larger card format used by other content on that tab, but you’ll see a small blue box with the word “Ad” in it below the app’s name. Ads on individual app pages appear under the “You may also like” heading, which suggests apps related to the one you’re viewing.
As with App Store searches, ads on app pages are highlighted in blue to distinguish them from other recommendations. According to 9to5Mac, ad buyers can’t target these ads to specific apps, but the ads are relevant to the app under which they appear. “Apple Search Ads offers developers of all sizes opportunities to grow their business,” Apple said in a statement to MacRumors, 9to5Mac and AppleInsider. (ALSO READ: IOC sold petrol at Rs 10 per liter loss, diesel at Rs 14; company reports first quarterly loss in 2 years)
They added, “Like our other advertising offerings, these new ad placements will be built on the same foundation — they will only include content from apps’ approved App Store product pages and will adhere to the same strict privacy standards.”
The company plans to start testing the new ads soon. Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
According to The Verge, Apple first started showing ads in App Store search results in 2016 and began asking users for their permission to turn on personalized ads in September.
