Apple plans to place ads in the App Store’s Today tab

New Del­hi: Amer­i­can tech giant Apple plans to show ads in the App Store’s Today tab and on indi­vid­ual app pages. Accord­ing to The Verge, MacRu­mors, 9to5Mac and AppleIn­sid­er sug­gest the two new ad place­ments expand on the ads you can already see in the App Store search tab and in search results. Ads on the Today tab are shown in the larg­er card for­mat used by oth­er con­tent on that tab, but you’ll see a small blue box with the word “Ad” in it below the app’s name. Ads on indi­vid­ual app pages appear under the “You may also like” head­ing, which sug­gests apps relat­ed to the one you’re viewing. 

As with App Store search­es, ads on app pages are high­light­ed in blue to dis­tin­guish them from oth­er rec­om­men­da­tions. Accord­ing to 9to5Mac, ad buy­ers can’t tar­get these ads to spe­cif­ic apps, but the ads are rel­e­vant to the app under which they appear. “Apple Search Ads offers devel­op­ers of all sizes oppor­tu­ni­ties to grow their busi­ness,” Apple said in a state­ment to MacRu­mors, 9to5Mac and AppleIn­sid­er. (ALSO READ: IOC sold petrol at Rs 10 per liter loss, diesel at Rs 14; com­pa­ny reports first quar­ter­ly loss in 2 years) 

They added, “Like our oth­er adver­tis­ing offer­ings, these new ad place­ments will be built on the same foun­da­tion — they will only include con­tent from apps’ approved App Store prod­uct pages and will adhere to the same strict pri­va­cy standards.” 

The com­pa­ny plans to start test­ing the new ads soon. Apple did not imme­di­ate­ly respond to a request for comment. 

Accord­ing to The Verge, Apple first start­ed show­ing ads in App Store search results in 2016 and began ask­ing users for their per­mis­sion to turn on per­son­al­ized ads in September.
