Uunchai boasts an ensemble cast of Amitabh Bachchan, Boman Irani, Anupam Kher, Sarika, Neena Gupta, Parineeti Chopra and Danny Denzongpa. It marks Sooraj Barjatya’s return as a director seven years after his last film, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo.
Sharing the film’s two-day collections, film trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote on Twitter, “Uunchai shows strong legs at the box office… Remarkable growth [plus 101.10 percent] on Day 2…Superb word of mouth turns into packed shows…Fantastic Day 3 plus double digit weekend in the cards…Friday €1.81 crore, Saturday €3.64 million. In total: €5.45 million. India biz (business).”
Calling it exceptional growth, he added in another tweet, “Uunchai posts second largest day 2 growth after The Kashmir Files…Note: Day 2 growth percentage…The Kashmir Files: 139.44 percent. Uunchai: 101.10 percent. Extraordinary trend. India Business.”
He further said, “Rajshri has brought family audiences back to theaters… It has been difficult to get this segment to visit theaters lately, especially in post-pandemic times and especially for mid-range films… But Uunchai has managed. Check out Uunchai’s advance bookings on Day 3, it’s an eye opener… Forget mid-range movies, not many biggies can boast of having house full/fast filling shows ahead of time these days… Affirms again, content is king and Audiences are kingmakers.”
The Hindustan Times review of Uunchai called it “refreshingly different and breathtakingly beautiful”. It read: “Uunchai is a heartwarming story with no intention of preaching or trying to evoke extreme emotions. Uunchai moves you from the start. Sooraj Barjatya returns to direct after seven long years bringing with him a mix of emotions ranging from love, loss, dreams, desires, friendship, failure to self-confidence, conviction and a promise to your loved ones and most importantly to yourself pass.”
