wonder how these "fathers of skyscrapers" would feel seeing buildings like the Burj Khalifa…
this must be old cuz it still has the World Trade Center
This was Dope 😊
A very fascinating story. Here is my question let's discuss it. Could a construction technique of a skyscraper like a box with the only the exterior structure supporting the entire load (as in the case of the world tread center) results in weak building integrity? Could we say such design results in rapid collapse of those buildings during 9/11 after its main external strength was attacked and no substntial structure to left to hold it?
Set a goal to double our gdp that would solve SS and medicare and pay down debt if we could just stop spending
Modern Marbles
The key words I constantly hear throughout this episode are “ego” and “money.” It is this very materialism—this idolatry or worship of wealth—that made America and destroyed it. No wonder our society is so greedy and corrupt. We are still building monuments to self this very day. That is what the Tower of Babel was all about too.
It's sad to see once great American cities destroyed by democrats. To see how great and beautiful they once were and how derelict and crime-ridden they are now.
The term skyscraper originally referred to the high masted sailing ships coming from Liverpool.
So the Baron Jenney insurance building that was supposedly the " first to start the skyscraper revolution" pictured at 8:20 is the first skyscraper ? what about the obviously taller steel girder frame building pictured just to the left of the Baron Jenney?
Make me very sad to the WTC. I didn't realize this series went back that far.
It is amazing that only 5 iron workers died building the Empire State Building. Especially considering there were no harnesses or hard hats.
42:33 was he referring to the Burj Khalifa?
When was this originally aired?
Love this episode I've watched it numerous times.
Its still sad seeing the twin towers 😢
…"Take me to a skyscraper
take me to one todayyyyy" 🎶
Grate historical video about skyscrapers 👌👍
oof, the foreshadowing at 38:37
Twin towers went from sky scrapers to groundbreakers in a little over 10 seconds
.
Around 38:20, the narrator's spoken words aged well.
Yes, I know I'm being sarcastic, though it's hard to argue against more protection those two towers desperately needed after Feb. 26, 1993. After all, Rick Rescorla kinda predicted the fateful day where those two towers met its demise, so all I'm saying is that after 1993, the OG twins (i.e., the Port Authority of NY & NJ) should have installed something like an aircraft detector that can fire a missle towards a plane headed straight towards both the OG 1 WTC and 2 WTC.
The set back laws are so interesting… I would have never known that’s why a lot of the buildings in New York’s architecture are staggered
Great modern marvels.
