They make great hardware but yeah the concept of a gaming phone sort of needs to go away. They use the moniker to basically tell people right off the bat that they aren’t going to provide software support.
I’d rather buy a flagship slab phone and spend another few hundred on a used Steamdeck if a dedicated mobile gaming device is what I’m after than spend $1500 on this and get crappy cameras and run Android games instead of PC games like on the Steamdeck.
Android game library is boring, no exclusive game exist in android unlike ios with their resident evil 4 remake, death stranding, etc.
ZTE Red magic is better than this in every way.
I’ve had 2 ROG phones, and my favorite feature is still the Arrow active cooler controller, which I wish they would make Bluetooth so that it can connect to any phone. I think my biggest gripe with the rog phones in general are the cameras and the clunky software.

The red magic 9 is incredible, I couldn’t believe when I was playing Mario Oddyseey at 70 fps and beat the game in 3 days . Even my s23 ultra didn’t have that gaming performance

But ROG was already annoying since they make the fan is only compatible for a version of the phone. They expect people to buy a fan everytime you get a new phone!!

Very happy with my Ultra 11, way more affordable and less flashy.
This phone is begging for a desktop mode like DeX, or even straight-up dual-booting Steam OS. What a waste of hardware.
The only saving grace of this phone is dual type c port, good speakers and and cooling?

Nubia redmagic 10 pro+ is better value for money as far as specs is concern especially for gamers. 6.85 inches display, 7k mah battery and 960hz touch sampling rate for 830 US dollar is just an absolute steal in 2024.
Please dont buy any Asus ROG phones. I had Rog 3, the triggers went bad after exactly a year later. I got the rog 5 and guess what exactly after a year the motherboard went bad. Asus was kind enough to replace the factory defected motherboard only for the under warranty phones. Asus has been accused of poor build quality not just in phones but in laptops and desktop motherboards too. Asus Republic of trash.
The design is cool and more mature for me. I have rog phone 5, but to be honest I’m afraid to take it out especially in front of girls XD.
not unlockable bootloader is an automatic killer for me. Disgusting ASUS.
You had me until 2 years of software updates… Comparatively Samsung (24U) and Oneplus (12) are getting 7 years and 4 years, in the same price bracket.
I think it would best if you buy 3 phones: iPhone 16 Pro Max for video, Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra for photo, and ASUS ROG Phone 9 Pro for gaming.

Android 15 out of the box = 2 updates is the same as a phone with 14 OOB and three updates! NOBODY keeps a phone for 7 years! Think about getting a phone when you’re in 5th grade and still using it when you’re a senior in 12th grade???? NEVER!!!! So in reality this phone has the same number of updates as most phones!

To be honest, this phone with only 2 os updates, doesn’t even deserve a video, maybe just an article with the specs and done.
The 9 pro has a higher price than my 2023 ROG Strix G16
As a ROG Phone 7 user: remember, you cannot unlock the bootloader, because after the update to Android 14 ASUS stopped offering the tool for that (they had it for Android 13, but removed it from their website).
I don’t regret buying the phone (as much as I do buying the iPhone 16 Pro Max — the screen on the Apple device SUCKS in comparison), but I don’t like ASUS anymore and would avoid ROG altogether.
