The Quilters follows the daily lives of several quilters inside the sewing room at South Central Correctional Center, a Level 5 maximum-security prison in a small town two hours south of St. Louis, MO. From design to completion, the men reveal their struggles, triumphs, and sense of pride in creating something beautiful in this windowless, sacred space deep within the prison walls.

Beautiful and touching documentary. Got teary eyed while watching. They are wise and talented men who made mistakes but using their time and talent for something good. Thank you Netflix
Hands down one of the best docs I’ve seen. As a quilter I can relate to many of their sentiments. Quilting brings inner peace, focus, and joy. So glad these guys have found that.
This documentary was just released in Australia last night. As a quilter I was waiting for it! How very wonderful. Amazing work guys. Just shows that people are people, and can contribute to society if given a chance, regardless of their circumstances. I also fostered children when I was younger and I have no doubt that every child that get one of these quilts is very happy with such a special gift. And of course lets not forget the benefit to these men in being able to create and find that peaceful place that creativity takes us to.
Being a quilter, I am absolutely amazed by the beautiful quilts. I know the hours of sewing to complete one. The heartfelt satisfaction of giving your dedication and love

Just watched this tonight. Felt both heartbroken that these men find themselves at this situation in their lives, yet joyous at they have now found a purpose that quilting can have on a person and the emotional connections that come with. They have some amazing piecing skills! WOW. Congratulations Netflix on showing how quilting can affect people. Congratulations to The Quilters. Keep up the great work guys! You have designed some amazing quilts and made through this made helped so many kids.

This was such a beautiful documentary — it made me cry. I wish more prisons would give inmates projects like this that give them some purpose in life — even if they are there for decades or for life. Imagine what good it does for the kids who get these quilts and for the men who made horrible mistakes in life and are trying to make the best of their life behind bars. Bravo, Netflix.

I too cried through this documentary — both because these men show such gratitude and joy in being able to do something “good”. But also I cry because — after they show true remorse and want to truly live a better life maybe even serving others — why not amend the sentencing? There’s no reason why humans should be in a prison for decades and decades and — life. Our system is also broken — there is also a cycle of violence or crime that occurs too in many cases. Im glad these men have a way to channel their feelings and spirit but again also sad that they can’t go back out there and have a second chance. 🙏😢💔
Well, they certainly have the time to quilt! God bless them and the foster children they make the quilts for.
What a FANTASTIC group on men…They may be incarcerated for doing terrible things but these are real men. Giving back to foster children and THE QUILTS ARE SO BEAUTIFUL. Such talent…not everyone can do this; just sayin!!! MANY people on the outside don’t even do this kind of thing. As someone else said, let’s see MORE documentaries of the DO GOODERS and talented inmates in prisons throughout the US.

This is awesome–I’m a quilter and will have to find someone with netflix to watch the video. Am very proud of these guys. I’d like to know how to donate fabric to them. We used to go trout fishing at Montauk State Park and I’d get fabric from a small store in Licking. Love it. Looking forward to watching it in full.
This is fantastic. Coming from Lancaster County, PA I’ve watched women sew and hand quilt beautiful quilts. It’s an art and this gives all these men a gift that can provide for them on release. I’ve seen quilts go for thousands of dollars. What a great idea! These quilts have a story and the kids that receive them will have them for life, pass them down to their kids with their story.

We’re especially honored that some of these beautiful quilts have found their way to our Sleep in Heavenly Peace — MO, Mansfield chapter, where they’re bringing warmth and comfort with the beds we build and delivery to children in need.
At the 30:00 mark of the video, you can see a thank you letter from SHP-MO, Mansfield being read by the men. Their emotional reaction speaks volumes about how much it means to them to know their work is making a difference in children’s lives.
The Quilters Doc reminds us that everyone has the capacity for redemption and that acts of service—whether building beds or stitching quilts—can transform lives.

I honestly smiled this whole documentary. I used to work in corrections for the military, but when you give someone a purpose it can change their whole outlook. You could see the passion each of these men have and the fact they are helping others and this program gives them a sense of purpose is awesome. More prisons need programs like these. I know one where they train dogs for special needs and its awesome to watch both the dogs thrive and the men and
And woman flourish when with each other. I hope more correction facilities can do this.

The Quilter is a wonderful documentary. It shows the power of creativity for anyone. My heart goes out to all the men involved in the quilting program. Be at peace the best you can and continue giving to children who need to feel that someone cares.

This is absolutely wonderful. I’m a quilter n I know what mental therapy it is for me. This made my day. I really believe that if the penal system would teach a trade to the prisoners their chances of making it on the outside would be great. We need to do it differently. Thank you for this video. Things could change if they’d do it right.
I wish more programs like this existed throughout the country. When we donate we would like to think that it is going to someone in need. It’s nice to see donations being used to bring comfort and joy to innocent children who may not have that in their lives. And btw those quilts were contest worthy. They were beautiful and you could tell they were made with such love and care. Thank you for sharing the good through the bad. ❤🥹🙌🏼
